How much do you charge for _________ cases?I do not have set fees for criminal matters. I base the fee off the amount of time I believe will be required on the case. Common sense tells you some cases will take more time than others. If you are charged with robbing a bank, it will take more time than if you were charged with running a red light. Even the same type of charge can take more time depending on the issues present. A DUI with potential suppression issues will take more time than a DUI without those issues. We will discuss exactly what I think will be necessary in your case and why. I don't file motions that have no merit, meaning also I'm not wasting your money on some unnecessary garbage. On civil cases, there may be a set fee but usually civil case fees are based on the result of the case and what agreement we have worked out in advance, usually a percentage amount.

Can I make payments on my fee?If you have a criminal matter, yes you can. If you need to make payments, I will work with you. If you have a civil matter, it depends on the type of case. Some cases won't need a payment arrangement because the fee is based on the outcome of the case. In any case, I try my best to be reasonable.

What counties do you practice in?I primarily practice in Washington, Unicoi, Carter, Johnson, and Sullivan counties. Depending on the case, I may travel to Greene or Hawkins counties.

Can you guarantee a certain result?I don't guarantee outcomes because I think it is dishonest to do so. What I will do is tell you, based on my experience and knowledge, my opinion on the facts, the potential strategies we might take, and what the options are. I want you to know the ins and outs of your case. Far too often I have had clients tell me previous attorneys wouldn't explain their case or why they ought to take a certain course of action. I don't operate that way. I want you to be involved in your case and know what's going on. Many things can change from the beginning of a case to the end. Sometimes that can be good and sometimes not. A simple but dramatic example is if you needed a witness to prove an alibi for you and that witness was convicted of stealing from a church before you go to trial, it's going to hurt your case, even though it has nothing to do with you. On the other hand, if the witness is for the prosecution and the same thing happens, it will help your case. No matter what comes, I want to be prepared and I want to have you prepared. I want you to know the good, bad, and the ugly. That's what I would want someone to do for me.
